According to the Michigan State Police, an 18-year-old Grand Rapids man was riding as a passenger  on westbound I-96, near the 47-mile marker and Whitneyville Road SE, when the driver of the vehicle allegedly lost control, crossed the median and collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle. The 18-year-old passenger died on the scene.
