Hastings Motorcycle Accident

A Hastings man and his 15-year-old daughter were injured in a Hastings Motorcycle Accident on July 14th.  According to police, the bikers were allegedly riding on South Hanover street when a semi-truck allegedly turned in front of them and they struck the rear wheels. Both riders were hospitalized with serious injuries and their conditions are unknown at this time. Police continue to investigate the accident.

I am sorry that this accident happened and wish the man and his daughter a fast and full recovery.

Both of the injured bikers may be entitled to Michigan No-Fault Insurance Benefits for payment of medical expenses, lost wages, and other expenses.  Their entitlement will depend on a number of factors, including their insurance policies and the specific facts of the accident.  They may also have claims for their injuries and pain and suffering against the negligent motorist.

The bikers may also have a claim against the truck driver and the trucking company. However, further information is needed from the investigation to determine if there are any claims against the truck driver and the trucking company.

Kent County Motorcycle Accident

A Courtland Township man was killed in a Kent County Motorcycle Accident on July 14th in Cedar Springs. According to police, they allegedly found Robert Polovich  lying near his 1997 Harley-Davidson on South Main Street Tuesday Evening.   Police state that Polovich was riding on South Main Street through a construction zone when he apparently lost control of his bike and crashed.  He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries and eventually died from those injuries. Police are still investigating the accident.

I am sorry that this accident happened.  I offer my most heart felt condolences to his family for their tragic loss.

I  feel that it is important for those families of a person killed in a motorcycle accident to know their legal rights.  Because the full investigation is not completed, it would be speculative to discuss hte legal rights of the family.  However, if the investigation reveals that there was a defect in the roadway that made it unsafe for travel, there may be a possible lawsuit against the government agency responsible for maintaining the roadway.

Michigan law imposes strict deadlines for filing these claims and notifying the government agencies so it is essential to contact an experienced lawyer right away.
