Grand Rapids Couple Injured in Oregon Car Accident

I read in the news this morning a tragic story about a Grand Rapids Couple Injured in Oregon Car Accident.  According to Oregon State Police, the couple was allegedly travelling on Highway 101, south of Coos Bay, when the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel causing their 2009 Mazda minivan to drive off the road and head-on into a tree.

The female driver and male passenger, who were husband and wife,  were rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries. They are in stable condition at this time.  Police are still investigating this accident.

I am very sorry to hear about this out of state accident and wish both the driver and passenger a speedy and full recovery.

Michigan insured car accident victims have a number of legal rights.  For this type of auto accident, the injured passenger and driver can submit a claim for Michigan No-Fault insurance benefits, even though the accident happened in another state.  No-Fault benefits will cover their medical expenses, lost wages, attendant care, replacement services, and other benefits related to injuries suffered in the accident.

In addition, the injured passenger may be able to file a lawsuit against the person determined to be at fault in the auto accident.  Even though the passenger is or may be the husband of the driver, the insurance company for the driver must still cover any injuries. In this lawsuit, he can claim damages and compensation for the injuries suffered in the accident.  This type of claim is frequently made.

An experienced Michigan car accident lawyer can assist the victim with this type of claim.  Accident victims should not speak with the insurance adjuster for the negligent driver before consulting with an attorney.
