Fatal Courtland Township Car-Trailer Accident

There was a story in the paper today about a fatal Courtland Township car-trailer accident that occurred Tuesday, October 27th in Kent County. According to the Kent County Sheriff’s office, the accident occurred 10 Mile Road NE when a Grattan Township woman’s 2006 Mercury Mariner was allegedly crashed into by a runaway trailer, filled with scrap metal. The trailer allegedly unhooked from a van traveling on 10 Mile Road near Je-Ne-Be Drive. A female passenger in the Mariner was seriously injured as well. The driver of the Mariner was rushed to the local hospital where she died the next day. The passenger was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Police believe that a metal pin holding the trailer came loose or failed causing the towing mechanism to come apart. Police are still investigating this accident.

I am very sorry to hear about this tragic accident and offer the family of the deceased Grattan Township woman my most sincere condolences and best wishes. I hope that the injured passenger has a speedy and complete recovery without any permanent deficits.
